Produces fine, full-bodied wines with aromas of apple and the most delicate acidity
This is one of the classic varieties grown in the Loire Valley, where it dates back to the 9th century. The robust vines adapt very well to fertile soil. If cultivated with care, it can result in truly exceptional wines, particularly when calcium or shale is present in the soil. It ages beautifully. In the Languedoc region, it is permitted on Limoux AOC plots to make crémant.
