Perfectly poised Pouilly Fuissé
“A winemaker must always remain humble. We think we know everything, but we don’t. All we know is that each vintage is different, possessing its own unique character. Our job is to adapt each year so as to produce the best possible wines from what the season provides.” - Georges Duboeuf, chief winemaker
The Family Business
It is little wonder that Georges Duboeuf chose to purchase a vineyard in his native Chaintré. His family were local vineyard owners, dating back over 400 years. He grew up among the vines, tasting their fruit, and studying the soils and slopes that define the land.
A Beloved Terroir
The Clos Reyssié is named after its original owner. Today, this 15-hectare plot is shared by multiple growers who all agree that it is the finest vineyard land in Chaintré. The eastern exposure, 250 metre altitude, and gentle slope of the vineyard all contribute, along with its clay limestone soils, to producing white wines of incredible finesse. Georges Duboeuf’s Clos Reyssié is particularly elegant; brimming with white floral and almond aromas.
Great Wine made in the Vineyard
A delicate guiding hand is all that is required to craft this seductive Chardonnay. The optimally ripe, healthy grapes pack an incredible punch of concentrated, complex flavours. Fermentation takes place in a mix of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. This duality preserves freshness, while bringing attractive textural weight. Bottling takes place soon after the completion of the malolactic fermentation to allow the bright fruit flavours to shine.
A Perfect Pairing
Georges Duboeuf’s cellar master believes that there is no finer match for their Clos Reyssié Pouilly Fuissé than the local dish of roast chicken in a morel mushroom cream sauce. The crisp, mineral nature and taut structure of the wine is the ideal counterpart for a rich, creamy sauce. Subtle notes of dried fruit linger on the finish underscoring the savory mushroom flavours.
