Domaines Fabre

The Fabre family’s Bordeaux dynasty started in 1964, when Gabriel Fabre acquired Château Lamothe, one of the region’s most historic vineyard terroirs dating back to Roman times.

A collection of prized estates

With properties dotted across the most prestigious vineyard areas of the Haut-Médoc, Domaines Fabre has solid expertise in cultivating top-quality wine grapes. They attribute their success to the ideal viticultural conditions of the region; namely the temperate, maritime climate and the gravel and clay-limestone soils.

Optimal vineyard soils

Gravel soils warm up quickly in spring, retain and radiate heat, helping late ripening grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon reach balanced ripeness. Merlot thrives on clay-limestone soils, giving a fresh, velvety expression that counterbalances the more powerful, tannic Cabernet Sauvignon.

Traditional winemaking techniques

After manual harvesting, rigorous hand sorting, and destemming, the grapes for Domaine Fabre estates are vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel for Merlot and Cabernet, while the muscular Petit Verdot is fermented in oak. Wines are then matured in French oak barrels for one year.

Favourite food & wine pairing

Third generation Fabre descendant and export director for the group, Jean-Hubert Fabre knows his Haut-Médoc food and wine pairings! He recommends serving Château Lamothe-Cissac with a fine rib steak slow cooked over the embers of Médoc Cabernet Sauvignon vine cuttings.
