Robert Parker

A wine score is the quickest, simplest way for a wine critic to communicate their opinion about the quality of a wine.

  • Tasting Notes

The textbook definition of Malbec in a very good vintage.
Bright violet in color, this wine is fresh and floral, featuring blackberry, plums, and violets on both the nose and palate. It is soft and round, with a noticeable minerality and silky tannins that mark a lengthy finish. Low yields, meticulous vineyard management, and low-intervention winemaking are the hallmarks of this and all Achaval Ferrer wines.

  • Vinification and Aging

Vinification: Several daily open pump-overs with gentle watering of the cap, followed by a light pressing determined by daily tastings.
No filtration, no cold pre-fermentation maceration, no correction of the grapes’ natural acidity, no bleeding during fermentation maceration, and no enzymes of any kind are used during vinification.

Fermentation : Carried out in cement tanks at high temperatures (between 29°C and 32°C) with multiple daily pump-overs.

Malolactic fermentation : 100% spontaneous, taking place during barrel aging.

Oak and aging : Aged for 9 months in second- and third-use French oak barrels.

  • Terroir

    Soil
Uco Valley: Very shallow soil with surface gravel, combined with volcanic ash and calcareous rocks. Excellent drainage.
Luján de Cuyo: Alluvial origin, featuring a thin sandy loam topsoil over gravel. Excellent drainage.
Medrano: Alluvial origin, with an 80 cm surface layer of silty clay over a bed of sand and eroded rock.
