  • Tasting Notes

MASTERSON is a world-class single vineyard Shiraz wine, celebrating the expression of an exceptional individual site. Deep ruby color with bright purple highlights. Expressive nose of red berries and satsuma plum, enhanced by smoky, delicately perfumed oak. Dense and velvety on the palate, marked by flavors of chocolate raspberry and redcurrant. The inky texture is supported by lively acidity and a silky-smooth tannic structure. A rich, structured wine, where ripe fruit and finely integrated oak augur superb ageing potential.

Grape variety : 100% Shiraz (Limited to 2000 bottles.)

  • Vinification and Aging

The grapes were picked on February 20th and promptly crushed into a small stainless steel fermenter. The wine stayed on skins for 14 days with regular pumpovers. Once primary fermentation finished, it was basket-pressed into a small tank, then transferred to neutral hogsheads for malolactic fermentation. After six months, it moved into a seasoned second-use Foudre, where it aged for another 41 months. Following bottling, the wine matured for over a year before release, allowing it to fully settle and integrate

  • Terroir

After decent rainfall in winter and spring, soil moisture was ideal for the growing season, helping Barossa vineyards grow strong canopies into summer. January and February were warm and dry, with summer rainfall at just half the usual levels. Hot days and nights in February slowed ripening and lowered natural acidity. Yields came in about 10% below average, resulting in concentrated flavours, colour, and tannins in Barossa Shiraz. Harvest picked up pace in early March, when most of the region’s Shiraz was brought in.
