From intuition to recognition

Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, the winery's owner, has a deep appreciation for the terroirs of Lalande-de-Pomerol. This appreciation is the source of Château La Fleur de Boüard. He uses his technical and oenological expertise in a novel, ecologically friendly method of wine cultivation, assisted by his daughter Coralie. The de Bouard family produces wines with exceptional elegance that rival the best Bordeaux appellations with precision and a commitment to sustainability.

The Birth

Hubert de Boüard de Laforest had long thought that Lalande-de-Pomerol estates were capable of producing exceptional wines that could compete with those from the best Bordeaux appellations. In 1998, he acquired this 25 hectare (60 acre) property. Coralie, his daughter, works with him on the estate and shares her father's love of caring for vines and creating wine. Philippe Nunes, their technical director, bolsters the team's advantages. As the team's synergies increased, a familial goal to lavish this estate with the attention it merited evolved.

The terroir’s finest secrets

The estate that became Château La Fleur de Boüard belonged to a postman who devotedly cared for his grapes. It is tucked away in the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation area near to the hamlet of Pomerol. As a result, the de Boüard family purchased vines that were in excellent shape, had not been overused, and were quite thickly planted. Since then, the family has made a commitment to follow stringent guidelines that safeguard natural balances in order to uncover the most exquisite secrets of this terroir and produce the highest-quality wines that will represent the appellation at its best.

Early flowering vineyards

To understand the full potential of this terroir, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest and Coralie went out. Coralie was raised among the family vineyards at Château Angélus in Saint-Emilion, and together with her father, they were sure that the vineyards in Lalande-de-Pomerol had all the makings of exceptional wines.

The climate is suitable for growing vines since it is sunny, warm, and humid, and the soil is rich and adjacent to tributaries of the Isle and Dordogne Rivers. The warm weather encourages the vine to blossom early. The frequent use of "La Fleur" (flower) in estate names in this appellation area might be attributed to this regional uniqueness.

A family with a long wine growing tradition

Any flower gets its nourishment from the ground, which gives its roots strength. The soils of Château La Fleur de Boüard, which are composed mostly of clay, gravel, and sand, are ideal for the grape types that were planted there: 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The de Boüard family works extremely hard to encourage the growth of these early blooms into sparkling, juicy, meaty grapes. In order to carefully guarantee that the grapes here prosper, it takes a stringent strategy motivated by long-standing wine-growing traditions and relying on oenological and scientific understanding.

The Challenge

To allow Hubert de Boüard de Laforest's intuitive vision to materialize as a steadfast family business, the vineyard needed to be reorganized over the course of roughly twelve years. Quality was fundamentally improved throughout this period by technological innovation.

The whole de Boüard family's experience is focused on a never-ending pursuit of excellence and beauty. The family has used its well-known scientific and oenological expertise and begun a number of cutting-edge technical and architectural ventures. A fantastic illustration of this risky endeavor is the modern buildings that mix the elegance of glass with the dignity of timber.

A family heritage takes root

The estate has an oenological analytical lab that supports several experiments and research projects related to vine care and wine production. The property's vathouse, which is unparalleled in the entire globe, is the main innovation. The wines are produced using a cutting-edge method that is based on a system of hanging inverted truncated cone-shaped tanks.

These investments make it possible to extract the best flavors from this region and produce famous vintages that are competitive with the top Bordeaux brands. The pursuit of harmony, propriety, and elegance that gave rise to Château La Fleur de Boüard, Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard, and Le Lion de La Fleur de Boüard is represented by them. With these three well-known cuvées, La Fleur establishes its family legacy.
