Double your pleasure with Iscay

The Trapiche winery was named after its initial vineyard “El Trapiche”. This visionary estate quickly gained global recognition. In 1889, the winery received its first international award in Paris. Trapiche remains today the largest exporter of fine Argentinian wines.

Eco-Responsible Viticulturists

Trapiche’s vineyards are managed according to biodynamic, organic, and sustainable viticultural principles. The winery reveres biodynamics for its role in sustaining ecosystem balance, enhancing biological diversity and recovering bacterial activity in the soil. Trapiche uses only organic plant and animal fertilizers created on their farm, adjacent to the winery.

Pioneers & Innovators

One of the oldest, largest, and most internationally recognized wineries of Mendoza, Trapiche has brought about fundamental changes to winemaking in Argentina. They introduced new vineyard row orientations better suited to local terroirs. They were also the creators of the Argentinian “blend” in a time when the country’s wines were simply labeled red or white. Finally, Trapiche was first to produce premium wine, with the 1983 launch of Medalla.

“Trapiche represents the richness of diversity in Argentina. Throughout its history, it has specialized in obtaining the best from every site to create unique wines.” - Daniel Pi, Chief Winemaker

The concept behind Iscay wines

To develop the Iscay line, Daniel Pi joined forces with two talented and knowledgeable colleagues… who also happen to be his friends. The unique Malbec-Cabernet Franc was crafted with Marcelo Belmonte, head of viticulture at Trapiche. Together, Daniel and Marcelo selected the plots, chose the grapes, and then discussed different combinations and vinification techniques. Their respective visions are described on the wine label and can be noted in the wine itself, which is characterized by black fruit, a touch of balsamic, and powerful tannins.

The same process was used to make the Syrah-Viognier, a blend of red and white wine that Daniel created with Joey Pensley, a winegrower in Santa Barbara. The result is an intense red that exudes scents of plum, candied peach, blackcurrant and a hint of white pepper, along with floral notes. Both refreshing and charming, this wine is the perfect complement to wild game and semi-firm cheeses.

133 years of tradition and innovation

These wine concepts combine two cultures and attest to Trapiche’s innovative spirit. The estate is proud to be the first Argentine winery to craft its own blends—in a country where most wines are simply classified as “red” or “white.” Trapiche also updated the traditional French manner of planting vines by reorienting the stocks to protect them from the blazing South American sun. And, last but not least, Trapiche was the first Argentinian wine producer to export its products.

Their most noteworthy vineyards

Iscay’s fine wines originate in the Uco Valley. The grapes for the Malbec-Cabernet Franc come from the Cruz de Piedra and Altamira vineyards, whereas those for the Syrah-Viognier are from Los Arboles. In addition to these extraordinary sites, we simply had to visit Finca Las Palmas, which is one of Trapiche’s most elegant and widely appreciated vineyards. Located in Maipú, a historic winegrowing region, this vineyard offers stunning views of the snowy peaks of the Andes.
