Vinification and Aging
Vinification
Harvested from the Upper Douro sub-region, the grapes arrive at the winery in 22kg plastic crates and undergo a thorough inspection. After de-stemming and pressing, the juice is cooled to 8ºC and left in stainless steel tanks for 48 hours for settling. Fermentation begins in these tanks, then transfers to French oak barrels, where it continues at 14ºC for 45 days.
Ageing
The wine spends 6 months in French oak barrels, half of which are new and half previously used. The barrels are placed on rollers, allowing fine stirring of the lees without exposure to oxygen. Barrel composition includes 85% French oak and 15% French oak with acacia heads.

Terroir
The 2023 growing season in the Douro was marked by an atypical climate: a rainy winter, a hot, dry spring, and a summer punctuated by heavy rains in June and September. Bud-break was slightly delayed, but the high spring temperatures brought forward flowering and veraison, leading to one of Quinta do Crasto's earliest harvests, starting on August 10 for the white grapes.
Rainfall replenished groundwater reserves in winter, while spring and summer brought drier conditions with occasional storms. Despite the climatic challenges and pest pressure, the grapes were healthy and ripe, producing wines of exceptional balance, structure and character.
