Wine Advocate

A wine score is the quickest, simplest way for a wine critic to communicate their opinion about the quality of a wine.

  • Tasting Notes

Aromas of warm stone, ripe black fruit and walnut pave the way for a full-bodied palate, with supple tannins and a savory finish. The wine offers a beautiful ripeness of fruit, accompanied by saline nuances that reinforce its juiciness. Dense and tight at this stage, it promises great potential for pleasure with time. Certainly the best ever produced here.

  • Vinification and Aging

The vinification of this wine includes an extended maceration of 32 days, allowing optimal extraction of aromatic and phenolic compounds. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, malolactic fermentation is carried out immediately to ensure greater stability and aromatic complexity. Aging takes place in both Slavonian oak and French oak barrels, helping to refine the tannic structure and enrich the wine's sensory profile. Aging lasts from harvest to January 1st of the following fifth year, with a minimum of two years spent in wood, followed by at least four months in bottle before release.

  • Terroir

CastelGiocondo is the result of a rigorous selection of the finest Sangiovese grapes, grown on plots benefiting from ideal altitude, well-drained soils and optimum south-west exposure. These conditions reveal the full nobility of this ancestral grape variety. The resulting wine is distinguished by its elegance, balance and remarkable structure.
