Raymond Vineyards through the years

Raymond Vineyards has over 300 acres of estate vineyards in the Napa Valley, in 3 locations. Each parcel is matched to varietals which perform well in that particular climate and soil type. In addition, the winery maintains long term growing contracts with over 15 Napa Valley growers, allowing the winery to take advantage of the micro-climates and sub-appellations within the Napa Valley.

The Story of Raymond Vineyards

A trip through the years at Raymond Vineyards is a historical excursion through Napa Valley's deep viticulture and winemaking heritage.

In 1933, the Raymond family arrived in Napa Valley, and in 1936, they married into the Beringer family. Roy worked for Beringer as a winemaker from 1933 to 1970, when he and his two sons decided to go it alone with the 90-acre estate property in Rutherford where the winery is located. In 1974, they launched the first commercial wine under the Raymond Vineyards label, and they haven't looked back since. The Raymonds built their winery with hard work and a pioneering spirit, as do all great American family stories. Raymond Vineyards has become a Napa Valley institution thanks to their dedication.

First crush

Their first vintage crush, in 1974, was typical of early Napa Valley harvests: the family worked side by side on every aspect of the winery, from hospitality to farming, fermentation, bottling, and sales.

Deep roots

The family's delicate wines immediately gained renown for their wonderful blend of refinement, strength, and complexity. The winery was imbued with a sense of its deep roots in the Napa Valley and a determination to preserve those roots, the estate, and the family history through every wine produced by five generations of the Raymond family.

Boisset collection

Today, that family line is intertwined with the prestigious Boisset Collection of Burgundy. Raymond Vineyards is no exception to Jean-Charles Boisset's track record of taking wines to new heights.

Vineyard Manager Sophie Drucker has moved the estate vines to organic and Biodynamic® agricultural practises, a characteristic of Boisset Collection holdings globally. The vineyard has also refurbished its tasting area and added a number of additional visitor attractions, all with the goal of educating customers and encouraging them to pursue their passion for wine.

Stice Vineyard

The estate Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard at the end of Stice Lane sits on the valley level, approximately north of the Rutherford estate vineyard and south of St. Helena. Pleasanton Loam is the soil type, and the climate ranges from Region II to Region III, with relatively warm temperatures.

Founder’s Ranch Vineyard

The Founder's Ranch vineyard, planted in 1976, is a one-of-a-kind property located on gravelly alluvial fan soils with excellent drainage on the southern outskirts of St. Helena. The vineyard is a representation of one of Napa Valley's most prestigious and high-quality terroirs, producing rich, robust wines with fine-grained tannins. The vineyard is planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon and is currently undergoing certification to become Certified Napa Green, Organic, and Biodynamic.

Rutherford Vineyard

The original estate vineyard is located in the heart of Napa Valley, on the south side of Zinfandel Lane. The 106-acre plot is planted to 82 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and is located on the valley floor between St. Helena and Rutherford. Pleasanton Loam is the soil type, and the climate ranges from Region II to Region III, with relatively warm temperatures.

Jameson Canyon Vineyard

The 210-acre Jameson Canyon vineyard is located in southern Napa Valley and is influenced directly by the San Pablo Bay. This location, which is mostly made up of undulating hillsides and has a cold Region I climate, is heavily influenced by fog and bay winds. There are 130 acres of Chardonnay, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc planted, with more vines planned in the coming years.
