THE WINE OF VENICE
"Our estate is based on tradition, but with an injection of that spirit of innovation which is absolutely essential for anyone who sets excellence as their everyday objective. We place professionalism, experience and dedication at the service of quality and taste, transforming the grapes of our vineyards into the wine of Torresella, the wine of Venice." -Torresella
Torresella is a small village not far from the Venetian lagoon, a land where agriculture is deeply rooted in social and cultural life. Vines have been grown profusely here since the time of the Roman Empire, and this area also served as the breadbasket of the Venetian Republic. The Alps to the north and the Lagoon of Venice - UNESCO World Heritage Site - to the south embrace this area, which is also fertilized by the two waterways Livenza and Tagliamento. Torresella was founded in 1984 with a mission to produce authentic Venetian wines that reflect the estate's strong commitment to nature. The winery is based on tradition, but with an injection of that spirit of innovation which is absolutely essential for anyone who sets excellence as their everyday objective. Torresella wines are sustainably-farmed, using only natural products. As of 2012, the solar panels on the winery's roof have made the winery completely energy self-sufficient. Most recently, Torresella was awarded the SQNPI certification, as of the 2019 vintage, which further shows the commitment to the environment.
CLIMATE AND SOIL
Torresella vineyards stretch from Villanova di Fossalta di Portogruaro down towards the sea and the Venice lagoon and are bordered on all sides by stretches of water: a mix of rivers and the Adriatic Sea. These stave off the intense cold of winter and the relentless heat of the summer months, and this, along with the clayey, medium-textured, well-fertilized soil rich in salts, produces unique grapes. The vineyards lie just a few meters above sea level. This is a land with a history stretching back thousands of years, where ancient Romans and the Venetian Empire left their mark. In recent years it has affirmed its deeply held, ancient passion for agriculture, promoting the authentic features of the grapes traditionally grown in the area.

SUSTAINABILITY
For Torresella, environmental sustainability is a vision that takes concrete shape from the very beginning of the work. Sustainable growth began in 1984. Torresella combines environmentally friendly, cutting-edge techniques with the traditions of the past, producing top quality results. Here are the best practices in greater detail. They have been studied and fine-tuned over the years and have made it possible for Torresella to find the perfect balance between tradition and sustainable innovation:
- Clonal selection, together with careful management of the vegetative canopy, allows to create ideal conditions for the ripening of the grapes.
- The use of an underground drip system offers efficient irrigation along with a large saving in terms of water resources.
- Respect for biodiversity permits the flora and fauna of the ecosystem to protect the vines.
- The abandonment of chemical herbicides in favor of mechanical operations and adhesion to a viticultural protocol that bans the most harmful active substances.
- Clean energy obtained through the use of solar panels and a biomass central allows an energy self-sufficient production system.
- Use of FSC-certified packaging.
- Local sourcing: Torresella produces most of the bottles for itself.
Torresella has obtained SQNPI - National Quality System for Integrated Production - certification, a production method aimed at reducing the impact on the environment and consumer health to a minimum.
THE SANTA MARGHERITA WINE GROUP
Torresella represents the most authentically Venetian soul of the Santa Margherita Wine Group, a unique corporation whose discoveries and innovations have forged the history of the wine production sector as a whole. Being a part of it means that Torresella has access to privileged expertise and cutting-edge technology, which has a long-term positive impact on the quality of our work and our wines. It also means that we share the Group's fundamental values: the betterment and promotion of our region, which takes shape and substance in the quality of our typical wines; environmental protection, achieved by reducing the impact of our production-related activities; and an ethical and social commitment, comprised of respect for people and their work, as well as investment in the local area.
In many fields, Torresella has been the forerunner, the experimenter and the innovator. Torresella is a lighthouse for wine production in its region, and it bears the responsibility of taking the risk of innovating in order to pave the way for smaller local producers.
