Maison Edouard Delaunay

Top quality sourcing

With a pre-established network of highly respected growers spanning the length of the Côte d’Or, Laurent Delaunay is able to secure top quality grapes to craft his range of classic village wines, intriguing Premier Crus and superb Grand Crus.

Adaptative winemaking

At Maison Edouard Delaunay, Laurent and his team know that each terroir, grape variety and vintage is unique. Every year, they adapt their fermentation and ageing practices to suit each individual cuvée, making sure that oak underscores rather than masks the expressive potential of each wine.

Artistry & precision

Ancestral and modern techniques are combined in the Delaunay cellars. Every winemaking decision, from harvest to bottling, is based on lengthy, group tasting sessions. The use of custom-made ancestral tools allows for artisanal practices, while a fully renovated winery enables high precision winemaking.

The jewel in the crown

While Laurent prides himself on the fine quality of all his wines, he has a particular fondness for his Griotte-Chambertin. This smallest, and most rare, of the Côte d’Or’s Grand Crus yields a red wine of exceptional depth and complexity.

A rich, unique history

The House of Edouard DELAUNAY was founded in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1893 by Laurent Delaunay’s great grandfather. Throughout the 20th century, the House was renowned as being one of the most important Burgundy Estates thanks to the quality of its wines which were distributed worldwide, to important French institutions (Elysée, Sénat) and were showcased at prestigious wine retailers (Nicolas..) and the major travel companies of the time. Due to its reputation, the greatest estates of the time entrusted it with the distribution of their prestigious wines, such as Domaine de la Romanée Conti and the Liger-Belair family (La Romanée). Bought back in 2017 by Laurent Delaunay, the great grandson of the founder, it strives to regain its place within the inner circle of the great houses of Burgundy through the meticulous and precise vinification and ageing of exceptional wines from some of Burgundy’s finest terroirs.

Behind the Wines

Laurent Delaunay

When Laurent Delaunay’s father fell ill in 1992 and made the wrenching decision to sell the family négociant business established by his grandfather one hundred years prior, Laurent went on to build his own highly successful wine company: Badet Clément. An impressive estate with a wine range spanning the length of eastern France from Burgundy to the Languedoc. However, the loss of Maison Edouard Delaunay lingered in his memory. So much so that, 25 years later, he repurchased the winery and its ancestral home the Château de Charmont. Laurent has ambitious plans to restore the wines to their former glory, re-establishing the name Edouard Delaunay among the finest wine producers of Burgundy.
