It produces richly coloured, tannic wines
Discover the products of this varietalCot Noir—also known as Cot, Malbec or Auxerrois in Cahors—is a grape variety originally from Southwest France, characterized by medium clusters of medium-sized grapes. This grape is the star variety of Cahors, which grows Malbec almost exclusively. It is tough, but sensitive to fruit drop, offering robust colour, density and powerful aromas with an excellent ageing potential. Malbec is also present in other appellations of France’s Southwest. In Bordeaux, it makes up 0.9% of black varieties. It was once common in the Saint-Émilion region, but phylloxera and frost nearly decimated it there; its vines are fragile and thrive in limestone soil.
